The busiest year yet – that’s the tale of the stats for 2023 and our Travel Alerts team who look after clients for Clarity, Destination Sports and Elegant Resorts.

In total, they actioned just over 5,500 alerts, an increase of 14% on the previous 12 months.
The Travel Alerts team said
“2023 has proved to be a very busy year for us. From typhoons to earthquakes, freak storms to global unrest, this year has been full of challenges. We adapted and reacted quickly to the situations that the world handed us this year, no matter the time of day or incident. The 24-hour, 365 days a year service that the team provide can be testing, but we pride ourselves in keeping our clients up to date with the latest information. From what happened in 2023, we will take what we have learned and move forward into 2024 with continuing positivity and the drive to continue giving our clients the best service possible.”
A closer look at the yearly review reveals some interesting facts...
There were 3,539 Level 1 incidents with the potential to cause travel disruption, 1,886 Level 2 incidents causing major travel disruptions or security related incidents and 17 Level 3 incidents regarded as a ‘threat to life situation’ and travellers safety needed to be established.
The data shows last January was the busiest month with more than 600 alerts actioned.
And with more than 2,500,000 client email updates and nearly 800 social media updates throughout the year, including 74 alerts out of hours, the reasons for the alerts were wide-ranging.
There were severe earthquakes all over the world (including Turkey, Morocco, Nepal, Afghanistan and Japan), extreme wildfires in Greece, Hawaii and Canada as well as a hostage situation at a German airport.
Conflicts around the world, extreme flooding, cyclones and hurricanes, security incidents in Brussels, Paris and Prague, as well as a series of rail strikes were also other reasons as to why our team had to send out alerts to travellers.
