Tell us a little bit about you
My name is Mark Doma and I’m currently enrolled on a 2 year Business Travel Consultant Apprenticeship in the Online Team. I commute every day into the Manchester Office. I’m 20 years old in March and by August I’ll have worked at Clarity for two years.
How would you describe a typical work day?
Really a typical day is depicted by how busy we are. At peak times it can be quite high pressure, when it’s less busy things are a bit more slow paced and we’ll be able to get our work done and have a bit laugh at the same time. Mornings are usually the busiest time and then it gets quieter as the day goes on. I always like working around lunch time (12-2pm) as it gets a bit quieter and gives you a chance to get more organised. In Online we work 8 hour shift patterns from 7:30am – 8:00pm. I don’t really have a favourite shift but I like a bit of a variety.
What are your main responsibilities?
I work in the Online Team so we assist clients with Go2Book and amend online reservations. Each day I am allocated to either take phone calls or work on emails. Sometimes I do admin work as well, and I’ve also started covering reception duties on occasion.
What are your career aspirations after you finish your apprenticeship?
I’d like to work my way up at Clarity; Online is an interesting job and there’s always plenty to keep me busy however in future I’d consider working with other departments. For now I’m looking forward to finishing my apprenticeship and maybe in the near future I could work towards a Senior position in Online.
What advice would you give to someone else looking to do an apprenticeship?
Just do it! It’s the fastest way to get work experience and there’s no age limit either, so if you wish to go to college first it’s definitely possible. I think if it wasn’t for apprenticeships I’d probably still be stuck in a classroom or working part time hours at my local supermarket.
What’s your dream travel destination?
I’d quite like to go to New Zealand one day, but the idea of such a long flight puts me off. I’ve been to California twice in the last 2 years because I’m lucky to have some family over there.
