Business travel fuels the UK economy with £28bn annually. The BTA's manifesto urges government support for net zero emissions, better transport, and a new UK Global Business Travel fund.
Last week the standard bearer for the industry – the Business Travel Association (BTA) – revealed its manifesto ahead of the King’s speech which took place earlier today (November 7).
The manifesto looks at many things including achieving net zero emissions, investing in transport networks and plugging the skills gap as it aims to solve industry problems, all while supporting the UK economy.
“The BTA manifesto highlights the importance of business travel and its value to the UK economy. As our industry body, the BTA is championing the cause of the business traveller and the organisations they represent as we seek measures that will reduce friction in business travel, help companies better meet their ESG (Environmental, social and governance) targets and manage their spend.”
The BTA’s manifesto is also looking to introduce a new UK Global Business Travel fund which would help ensure the efficiency of international travel, as well as calling for clarity on finances following Brexit.
“Business travellers are the drivers of international trade. As such, our industry should be recognised for its crucial role in the UK economy, and more must be done to improve the wider travel ecosystem. Constant unruly disruptions are pushing commuters to their cars as they lose faith in public transport networks. Delays to work trips due to travel incompetence are not only an inconvenience but carry significant economic and environmental costs for the UK.”
Following the publication of the manifesto, the BTA urged those businesses in the travel sector to approach their local MPs to invite them to their offices, and to ask them to highlight how important the industry is within the walls of Parliament.
Clive added:
“There is no common standard for businesses operating in the industry. This must change. We demand that the Government recognise the value of business travel and work together with the industry to ensure we collectively champion the unique needs of business travellers.”
Since Pat emailed MPs on Friday (November 3rd 2023), MP Lisa Cameron for East Kilbride has already arranged to visit the Clarity office in the town next month.
And it is hoped more MPs will follow Lisa in visiting Clarity offices around the country, while we back the BTA’s call for support to ensure the industry gets the government support it deserves.
